A native of Norrkoping, Sweden, Paajarvi was claimed off of waivers by Ottawa from the St. Louis Blues on Jan. 26 and went on to score six goals and add two assists in 35 games with the Senators. Between Ottawa and St. Louis, he combined to score eight goals and add four assists for 12 points in 79 National Hockey League games last season.
"We're happy to have Magnus back in Ottawa," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He showed us last season that he can play the game with speed, which fits with the style of play we want our team to exhibit. Magnus is a versatile player who will be able to provide us productive minutes in many situations."
Prior to joining Ottawa, Paajarvi spent four-plus seasons with the Blues after beginning his career by playing three seasons with the Edmonton Oilers. Originally drafted in the first round, 10th overall, by Edmonton in the 2009 NHL Draft, the 27-year-old has played in 387 NHL games with Edmonton, St. Louis and Ottawa, scoring 51 goals while adding 54 assists.
Paajarvi was part of the gold-medal winning Swedish team at the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Denmark, where he scored three goals and had a +3 rating playing in all 10 games.
